Leadership success and satisfaction come with a pay-it-forward mindset. At one point, today’s leaders were the future. Somebody paved the way for us. So it’s our natural duty to do the same for others down the road. The work we put in may not necessarily be something we will see immediate benefits from, but it will strengthen our foundation and help those that follow us. It’s also a way to pay homage to the ones that came before us. Our responsibility is to leave our industry and its organizations better than we found them.

Leadership is about Building and Serving our Community

When we come together in this industry, looking at each other as collaborators instead of competitors, we have the opportunity to continue to provide information to the community and industry, grow the market, and empower our consumers and our industry members.

When we focus on leaving it better for the next leader, the next organization, and the next visionary who comes after us, we invest in the industry’s future. So we have to be open to bringing more people to the table. Rather than living in the present and only putting put the fires directly in front of us, we serve better by looking to the future, with a focus on growing the army. Unity thought collaboration is vital to the health of our industry. Together, we are showing people their voice matters, and they are part of delivering results- and in turn, we are leaving it better for the next group when it is their turn to lead.

Leaders Understand the Scope of True Diversity

My heroes are the people who have been the trailblazers for the betterment of others. I try to emulate their successful leadership skills. As President, Abraham Lincoln brought together a team of rivals with vast agendas, opinions, and backgrounds. It’s not only about including people who come from different places or ethnicities, or economic statuses. Diversity of thought brings people together who think differently- sometimes in opposition to each other. Finding common ground across diverse perspectives, priorities, and agendas is true inclusion. It pushes things forward. And mends fences, leaving it better for the next group.

Our goal is to empower others to achieve their piece of the American Dream. Homeownership builds freedom, peace of mind, empowerment, and autonomy. To keep this industry strong, it’s important to set high goals for leadership and empower the next generation of mortgage lending and the industry’s future by setting them up for success.EPM is about lives, not loans. Leadership is about working for a greater cause. It’s our responsibility to make other people successful, and I am honored to be a part of that.
